WHEN OR HOW DID YOU DISCOVERED YOU WANT TO BE A HAIRSTYLIST ?

5 years ago I got to know Giel Domen from Domen & Van de Velde, he showed me hair in a different way and told me that I had to become a hairstylist and go to photoshoots with him because he saw that I was one talent for it. The fashion world always seemed a far from my bed show and because of Giel it suddenly came very close.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE ?

Sophisticated but rough, thoughtful but out of control. Raw Edges , but still beautiful. When you're heartbeat goes in that specifc way when you close you're eyes you know that its right.

WHO DO YOU LOOK UP TO ?

I admire the art form of Julien d’Ys and I am in love with what Guido Palau does. These are the two artists who I believe influenced my story with hair.

WHAT ARE YOUR BIGGEST DREAMS ?

I guess my biggest dream would be to stay healthy and happy while continuing to do what I enjoy in life. Creating Art with the right people around me and get inspired by the most inspiring people on the planet.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST FEAR ?

I don’t fear in my career, it would hold me back. There are some things you wish wouldn’t happen but in the end it will make you stronger.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT / MOST PROUD MOMENT ?
I have many but since I have to choose, I am totally in love with the nude big hair series I made with Domen & Van de Velde. It was something that both Giel and I had wanted to do for a long time, but I didn’t feel like I was ready for it. Eventually we booked some models, went into the studio and shot it. Everything went so smooth and I’m still amazed by how well it turned out.

WHAT DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE CURRENT SITUATION IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY REGARDS STYLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY ?

I feel that people should start dreaming again. I can only speak for myself, but I'm sick of this minimalistic nonsense. Let fashion become an art form again or at least a balance between realism and dreams. As an artist you always have to translate your clients need. I hope one day, they will let artists speak again.

WE WOULD GIVE YOU 1 MILLION , WHAT WOULD YOUR DREAM PROJECT LOOK LIKE ?

It would be amazing to rent out an amazing unique location such as a palace and shoot a major high fashion arty couture story there. Also spend a lot of budget on experimenting with textures, fabrics and hair. Playtime !
WHAT PHOTOSHOOT IS YOUR MOST REMARKABLE/FAVOURITE UNTIL NOW AND WHY ?

It's hard to choose one. At a certain point i had the opportunity to be on a very old, historical site in Italy where we we're doing an editorial.
Being there alone, was mesmerizing.

WHERE WOULD YOU WANT TO LIVE ONE DAY AS A HAIRSTYLIST ? WHERE DO YOU THINK YOUR STYLE FITS BEST ?

I believe my style will be most at home in the United States or Asia. Right now, I'd say I'd like to commute between Los Angeles and New York. Also the history that is still alive in these cities inspires me so much.

WHAT CELEBRITY OR HIGH FASHION MODEL WOULD BE A PERFECT MATCH
IN YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY ART ?

What I like best about a model or celebrity is when they recognise your value and trust you to do whatever you want, I think these are people like Lady Gaga, Tilda Swinton, Kristen McMenamy ,....
PHOTOSHOP OR NO PHOTOSHOP ?

I’m definitely pro-photoshop, but I feel like not everyone has it under control. It is crucial, in my opinion to preserve all of the model’s features, but what's wrong with fixing a a little beauty flaw such as a pimple or use it as an art form ? Lots of people see photoshop as a " transformer " tool. But there are so many artists that use it to make their art.

WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST STRUGGLE ?

My biggest struggle would be my OCD, which causes me to always try to change everything to make it more perfect. When I'm doing hair, I see stuff I want to change, but at the end of the day, it just looks perfect the way it is.
ADVISE FOR STARTING HAIRSTYLISTS OR OTHER CREATIVES ?

I believe it’s important for every individual to let go of things. Sometimes you get tired of certain things or something just doesn't work out the way you had in mind, instead of staring blankly, let go and start over.
